The world of community activism is constantly shifting and changing, with new and increasingly complex needs arising with the swaying seas of every nonprofit, and the Ann Arbor CIL is no exception! A strong volunteer team is vital in maintaining excellent community service. Our corps of dedicated individuals, giving of their time and talents, are finding new roles within the Center that utilize even more of their unique skills.
Volunteers that already generously give to the CIL are moving into new roles, but thankfully, they’re staying right here! For example, volunteer receptionist Mike R. will be using his customer service and database knowledge to assist staff member Melissa Sartori with enhancing the Washtenaw Talent Exchange (WTE). Also, gardening classes teacher Nadia E. has begun sharing her skills with our Research and Development Department, using her knowledge in grant writing to help secure funds for Ann Arbor CIL programming. And, last but never least, Job Talk participants and 2010 Gala Benefit volunteers Sandy M. and Tim W. are providing computer support to CIL Career Services job-seekers.
Opportunities in community leadership like these are built around the individual’s unique skills and time availability. From teaching classes to writing articles for this website, volunteers are encouraged to get involved, pursue their passions and make a difference – for the CIL and for themselves!
