Youth Recreation Volunteer Needed!

Are you FUN, POSITIVE and ENERGETIC?  Are you looking for a GREAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY?

Would you like to give youth the opportunity to have tons of fun?  Are you interested in volunteering in a meaningful way at the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living?

Purpose:

To support the Ann Arbor CIL Youth Program and its effort to provide FUN, accessible, and safe social and recreational activities for youth with disabilities!

Recreational Activities Assistant

Location:

Ann Arbor CIL and other locations as determined

Key Responsibilities:

Engage youth in activities.  It is important that the youth have a positive experience at the event.  Many of our youth may need assistance to have full participation in an activity.  As a volunteer, you will oftentimes serve as a helping hand, such as physically assembling an art project with a youth’s direction.

Greet youth when they arrive and assist as they leave. e.g. greeting their ride, and gathering their belongings.

Preparations the week before the actual event, including checking for necessary supplies and creating a list if anything is missing, making copies, etc.

Set-up and clean-up of events.  Set-up can include decorating, and moving things for accessibility and functionality.  Clean-up can include picking up trash, loading dishwasher and putting activity area back to original state.

Spread the word about the Ann Arbor CIL and our activities.

Reports to:

Anna Dusbiber Gossage, Youth Services Coordinator

Length of Appointment:

Ongoing.

Time Commitment:

The time commitment is 12-16 hours per month Social events typically take place on Friday evenings or weekends. For each event, there will be 2-3 hours of preparation a week before the scheduled event at the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living.  The commitment on the day of the event is 4-5 hours, including an hour each of set-up and clean-up.

Qualifications:

Eager to engage youth in activities, outgoing and friendly personality, basic computer skills, organizational skills, and a familiarity with office copiers.   Successful completion of criminal background check. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Support Provided:

Training will be provided for this position.  The Youth Services Coordinator will also be available on a regular basis to answer questions and offer support.
