Sewing Classes Continue at the Ann Arbor CIL

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

This spring the Ann Arbor CIL added a Sewing Class to its wide range of sports and recreation activities. We started out in April  with a basic hand sewing classes. Each participant learned how to  thread a needle, sew a few basic stiches, and sew on a button. With  these new skills our participants created throw pillows.

Many of our participants were more skilled at sewing, but they were  eager to help the participants that were newer to the craft. It was a  great class that was truly collaborative and a lot of fun. The  participants’ projects turned out beautifully.

Everyone had so much fun that we have decided to create a sewing group  that meets once a week to share sewing techniques and work on  projects. Our first group project will be a community quilt which  that we hope to raffle off at the Recreation Open House at the beginning of  August. The program has received a lot of support from the community. People have donated sewing machines, fabric, thread and  other supplies to help us create our beautiful work.

The sewing group is currently scheduled for Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:00 at the Ann Arbor CIL. This is subject to change. Please check the events calendar for the most up to date information.
