The Ann Arbor CIL is very involved in transportation issues throughout the county. We have been awarded $5700 to further the work to increase county wide transit by helping to advocate and educate community members on the benefits of county wide transit for people with disabilities.
Four organizations banded together to receive $40,000 and to have the ecology center hire a part time staff to coordinate the implementation of the grant. The three organizations partnering with the ecology center are:
1. Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living = $5,700
2. Interfaith Council for Justice & Peace = $5,700
3. Willow Run Chapter of the NAACP = $5,700
4. Ecology Center will manage the grant and hire a part time staffer with approximately the remainder.
The ecology center also had two additional funders putting forth funds – they have a grant with CS Mott Foundation for $50,000 and Trans4 Michigan also is giving the Ecology center $7,500.
We are proud to be leading the way in continuing to make a positive differences in our community transportation. Stay tuned!

CIL needs to take a long hard look at mass transit in Washtenaw County.
1. There is a serious lack of ADA compliant bus stops in WC and in Ann Arbor. It has taken me more than 8 months to get a Response from the AATA and it will be an additional 6 months to put in one accessible stop.
2. Without accessible stops the AATA informs the user that they have the option of door to door service in the AATA area of service. Price $3usd one way. I tutor for Washtenaw Literacy. This requires travel to public locations. There are a minimum of 3 round trips/week. Or, $18usd per week to utilize this service. ($900usd/year).
3. i am told that MDOT has to be involved. The AATA and the A2 city technicians examined the site (6 people). Multiple meetings have been held. Over a year has passed. And still no bus stop.
4. The CIL got $5700 in grant money. I am assuming some of that money will be spent studying the situation.
