We have had a great gardening season so far, and to help us celebrate, Ann Arbor native and rhythm enthusiast, Lori Fithian has agreed to facilitate a Harvest ’Drummunity’ workshop and circle at the Ann Arbor CIL, on September 22nd! ‘Drummunity’ is a local drumming organization, started by Lori, to lead groups of people in community building and creative workshops and drum circles using rhythmic instruments. In fact, Lori made up the term ‘drummunity’ to describe the community building that happens when people come together around a circle of drums.
Now at this point , you may be asking yourself, what will this “drummunity’ workshop and circle consist of? A ‘ drummunity’ workshop is essentially a drumming and rhythmic workshop that can revolve around a variety of different themes from community building, to appreciating difference and diversity, and more! Through the use of drums and other rhythmic instruments, Lori will lead workshop participants in a variety of activities that will help the group achieve the goal of building community, or whatever the workshop may be about. On the other hand, a ‘drummunity’ circle is a less structured, rhythmic experience! It is a drum circle, where a group of people off all different ages, skill levels, and ability levels, come together to play Lori’s instruments, and have fun!
This drummunity workshop and circle will be a fun way to further build not only our CIL community, but it can help us further build our local community, as well. So please consider attending! All community members, whether you are familiar with the Ann Arbor CIL or not, are invited to participate in both the workshop and the circle! People of all ages and abilities can participate in the ’drummunity’ workshop and circle! Plus, all you have to bring is yourself, Lori provides all of the instruments.
The Harvest drummunity workshop and circle will be held on Saturday, September 22nd. The workshop has small registration fee of $10/person, and will be held from 2 -4pm. After the workshop, Lori has generously offered to lead a FREE drum circle in our community garden,! The drum circle will be held from 4:30-6p.m. Please note that you MUST RSVP for this event!
