On Thursday August 16th, members of our community gardening program; participants from Growing Hope; and youth from Edible Avalon, came together to learn about canning and other ways to preserve fresh produce. Arika Lycan, from Growing Hope led the workshop. She taught participants about the basics of canning, and then guided them as they each made their own jar of canned peaches. This was the first collaborative event between the Ann Arbor CIL, Edible Avalon, and Growing Home this season! At the end of the workshop each participant went home with a jar of peaches and a little bit more knowledge about canning, freezing and dehydrating fresh produce.
Thank you Growing Hope for teaching this great workshop!
