As Special Projects Coordinator, Alex is involved with many different aspects of the Center and its programs. Alex manages our statewide Americorps*VISTA program, which brings talented individuals to disability organizations around the state to provide needed service for 1-, 2-, or 3-year terms. He also runs the Summer VISTA program, which brings about 20 talented youths to area nonprofit organizations each summer for work experience and community service.
In addition, Alex provides support to the Center's many grant development activities, managing grant submission and oversight processes. Alex also enjoys creating new opportunities and engaging with community members and organizations that contribute to the Center's research activities.
Alex himself was an AmeriCorps*VISTA member with the Center in 2002-2004, which he says gave him unique perspective into the value and challenges of community service, and the experiences of the individuals and organizations who partner with our VISTA program.
Alex graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a dual major in History and Political Science. Having spent most of his life in the suburbs of Chicago, Alex has settled in Ann Arbor with his wife Anna, whom he met at the Center, and their dog Karson. Alex enjoys spending time with his family and bothering Helen at the end of the day when she is trying to get her work done.
