Gary Heitman no longer works for the Ann Arbor CIL.
After a successful career as a Business Development executive for Ford Motor Company and consultant to the staffing industry, Gary Heitman is bringing his hiring know-how and savvy background in career transitions to job-seekers in our community at the Ann Arbor CIL.
At this critical time for our economy, Gary is working with the CIL to help area job-seekers achieve success as they reinvent their careers. As a Talent Connector for the Ann Arbor CIL, Gary works with a wide array of skilled and talented job-seekers in our community through workshops, discussion groups, and individual coaching sessions. He is keen at identifying each person’s unique talents and strengths, compassionate in his assistance, and savvy in helping people figure out what they truly want to do. Gary Heitman has been featured in Money Magazine and on Detroit’s Channel 7 Action News for his success in changing and reinventing careers.
Gary also works closely with a wide variety of businesses and employers throughout Southeast Michigan and helps them get connected to talent. Serving as a high quality staffing resource for companies, Gary helps employers fill their staffing needs with well-matched and highly qualified job-seekers. In addition, Gary provides support to the Center’s development of CIL Enterprises, a social mission-driven business initiative to provide jobs for people with disabilities right here at the CIL.
Gary first started working for the automotive industry in 1969 as a computer operator for Uniroyal Tire Company, and in the years following worked his way up to Operations, Marketing & Sales, and Project Management at Ford Motor Company. He worked in Business Development for Ford for over ten years and then decided to serve as a consultant for an IT recruiting firm in Dearborn for three years. Gary was involved as an employer-mentor and advisor to the Ann Arbor CIL Career Services program before joining it full-time in May 2010.
During his 40 years in the automotive and staffing industries, Gary Heitman has successfully hired, mentored, and managed thousands of people.
Although he likes to be referred to as the kinder, more mature, and more fun-loving member of our creative Career Services team, don't let his calm demeanor fool you. Gary is not afraid to utilize his large network of friends and business contacts to help job-seekers leverage their talents and skills and land the career they are pursuing. He’s passionate about mentoring and career counseling, and he is firm in his belief in the power of social networking.
Gary holds a B.A. in psychology and sociology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Gary lives with his two children in Plymouth and is an active volunteer in their schools. He’s also an avid softball player and loves to watch sports.
