Occupational Therapy Services
The following are occupational therapy services that we offer:
- Occupational Therapy Assessment
- Assessment and information on adaptive equipment on individualized basis (DME; equipment for the bathroom, bath rails, hand-held showers, Hoyer lifts/ standing lifts/ sliding shower chairs; specialized shower chairs)
- Assessment of accessibility for the home and recommendations (entry into the house; kitchen layout and what can be used to make the kitchen more accessible – rolling carts, various table heights, cooking equipment; bathroom – removal of under the counter cabinets; sensor for faucets; type of handles for faucets, various soap/shampoo dispensers, shower and commode chairs, sliding bath chairs, water operated tub lifts)
- Teach proper body mechanics – safe lifting and transfers for families to prevent back injuries
- Prevention measures for common injuries – carpal tunnel etc.
- Energy conservation techniques for in the home for persons with RA and generalized weakness (lifting pots in the kitchen, lifting techniques for heavier items, build in rest periods, how to perform work chores in the home using minimum amount of energy)
- Home environment assessment to prevent falls and injury (assess lighting, removal of obstacles in the home that can prevent injuries; placement of items in the home for ease of access, access to medications, cupboard of most used items, use of lifelines; assess evacuation in case of an emergency)
- Assessment for home modifications
- Practical cooking techniques and equipment for the kitchen for independence
- Simple accommodations for the home and work
