We at the CIL are extremely proud to share that we are now accepting applications to our annual college scholarship program. The John Weir Scholarship is named after one of our founders, John Weir, who was a tremendous advocate and trail blazer for people with disabilities.
In his honor, scholarship applicants are evaluated based on their experiences navigating, overcoming, or advocating for disability issues. This year, for the first time ever, scholarships may be granted up to $4,000, thanks to the generosity of donors. Also new this year, a student may be enrolled in either their first or second year of college, university, or trade school during the upcoming 2021-22 school year to be eligible.
Applications are due Monday, July 26 via post mail and/or an online form. July 26 is the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
To be eligible, a student must:
- Have a significant disability of any kind – for example, physical, visual, developmental, cognitive, hearing, learning, emotional, or other;
- Live in Washtenaw, Livingston, or Monroe County, Michigan; and
- Enroll in either the first or second year of, a 2- or 4-year college, university or a trade school program during the 2021-22 school year
