graphic with snowflakes that says this is ability

Dear Friends,

As we enter into this holiday season, I am proud to share with you the current activities at the CIL and the new and significant ways we are making life better for people with disabilities in our community.

As is often the case, hardship brings strength. This year, we have confronted a variety of challenges related to the pandemic, and through this, we are serving more people, providing new and effective forms of services, and reaching new locations. We are improving lives, changing attitudes about people with disabilities and improving access and inclusion for all people.

This is ability. Forging through adversity. Accomplishing new goals. And proving that amidst continued resource limitations, housing problems, transportation shortages, barriers to healthcare and education, and safety concerns that disrupt social connection, we are meeting people’s needs and improving life for people throughout our community.

Our year-end report highlights just some of the ways we have helped people this year. It outlines our work increasing access to basic living essentials, including housing, food, and transportation. It shares our expansion of technology use among people with disabilities through our program that provided tablet devices and training to 349 people across our community. And it showcases the variety of educational and enrichment programs we now offer online, enabling people to explore new interests and reducing isolation. These new services complement those we’ve long provided: disability and independent living support, individual and community advocacy, benefits counseling, career preparation, small business development, nursing facility transition and more.

This season, we ask you to please consider giving to the CIL. The support we get from individuals across our community is what enables the work we do. You make it possible to change lives for the better.

Gifts are easy to make online at www.annarborcil.org/give, and I welcome your calls and emails to discuss how you can make a difference. Please reach out to me at alex@aacil.org or 734-971-0277.

We thank you for your ongoing commitment to this work. Together we will continue to empower the lives of people with disabilities, make our community more inclusive, and truly define what ability is.

Sincerely,

Alex Gossage

Executive Director
