Coming up on Tuesday, August 23, we are proud to be part of an exciting event for the disability community, and we want to encourage you to consider joining us for it.

The 2022 Disability Pride Southeast Michigan event will be happening at Eastern Market in Detroit, in Shed #3, from 10 am to 3 pm that day. Full directions and information are on the event’s Facebook page. The event will consist of a series of performances and activities recognizing, articulating and celebrating many aspects of disability. A wide range of disabilities will be featured. There will also be resources and information available and an opportunity to connect with others in the community who share our pride and interest in disability issues. The event is being hosted by the CIL, Detroit Disability Power and the University of Michigan’s Council for Disability Concerns, and so you’ll also have an opportunity to connect with these organizations.

Activities and informational booths will be available throughout the event, and performances will be happening between 11 am and 2 pm. Performers slated thus far include a dancer, two poets, and a photovoice presenter. Because of the event’s location at Eastern Market, there will be food trucks nearby offering a wide range of great foods and refreshments for purchase. There will be a shuttle available from Ann Arbor to the event. For the schedule, click here. Please note, there are only two wheelchair spots available on each shuttle.

We hope you will join us for this unique event, and we look forward to celebrating many aspects of disability pride, culture, and community.
