Our offices are closed today, January 28, due to snow

  The Ann Arbor CIL is closed all day today, Jan 28, due to snow. We’ll reopen tomorrow. Stay safe and warm! If you need immediate assistance, call 211. Additionally, a list of winter warming centers can be found here, or by calling 734-662-2829. Give us a call tomorrow, Tues. Jan 29, if you need help preparing for the bitter cold temperatures heading our way later this week.

Great news! The CIL was just awarded a new grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation partnering with the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority, the University of Michigan, and manufacturer Q’Straint to install automated wheelchair securements in 10 area buses! Workshop for students makes the front page of the Monroe News!

Did you see it? We made the front page of the Monroe News! Check out highlights of our disability awareness workshop for 4th graders at Raisinsville Elementary yesterday. To date almost 20,000 students across the region have participated in one of our “DAW” workshops. Every year CIL staff and volunteers provide interactive, hands-on, and fun activities that teach 4th grade students throughout Washtenaw and Monroe counties what it’s like to have a disability.  Props to our team… Workshop for students makes the front page of the Monroe News!

Vote online! Help the CIL provide transportation to more seniors!

We need your help! Access Mobility is a program that will help seniors in the region get better, more affordable, and easier access to transportation. Through this program, the Ann Arbor CIL will bring more vans and an easy requesting service for older adults who need this program. The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation is holding a voting competition that will award funding to this project. We need your vote to enable this program to… Vote online! This week 23 law students from the University of Michigan Law School joined us to help research and plan new ideas for our advocacy initiatives. Students spent the day researching advocacy programs around education, employment, housing, transportation, Social Security, and guardianship issues and identified concepts to replicate in the Ann Arbor area. They also took a break, rolled up their sleeves, and helped us clean up our grounds, warehouse, and Loan Closet. Whew! Thanks, law… Thanks, Michigan Law Students!

Disability Pride in #GettingOutTheVote

Voter turnout hit record highs in yesterday’s primary election in Michigan, and people with disabilities were a big part of that. The Ann Arbor CIL led a #GetOutTheVote campaign on Facebook leading up to the election.
